Day 1: To Fulda!
Your journey to Fulda – the most picturesque baroque town in Hesse – could take you via Erfurt or Frankfurt am Main. A group tour will take you to see the magnificent buildings in the baroque quarter, the impressive Fulda Cathedral, St. Michael’s Church, which dates back to the 9th century, and the charming Residence. Before or after checking in to your hotel, you can take a leisurely stroll through the historic streets of the old town and admire the lovingly restored timber-framed houses. Enjoy dinner in your hotel or in a local restaurant. During the summer, why not add a trip to the theatre to see a musical or treat yourself to an open-air concert on Domplatz in front of the cathedral or in the museum courtyard.
Day 2: A visit to the weekly market & a trip to the Wasserkuppe or Kreuzberg Monastery
After breakfast, it is definitely worth paying a visit to Fulda’s colourful weekly market. It is open on Wednesdays and Saturdays and offers a great selection of regional products. Afterwards, you can drive to either the 950-metre-tall Wasserkuppe, known as the birthplace of gliding, or the monastery at Kreuzberg, where Franciscan monks have been serving pilgrims and hikers hearty meals and their famous Kreuzberg beer since 1731.

Day 1: Travel to Fulda via Rennsteiggarten Oberhof botanical garden
Your journey to Fulda first takes you and the tour group to Rennsteiggarten Oberhof botanical garden, which is situated in a winter sports resort. Here you will discover the fascinating landscape of the high mountains in the largest and most species-rich alpine garden in Germany. During your one-kilometre walk along the step-free main path (guides are available on request), you can admire around 4,000 plant species from the mountains of Europe, Asia, North and South America, New Zealand and the Arctic region. Generally speaking, you only get to experience such an incredible array of flowers and blooms after climbing high up in the mountains.
In the afternoon, you travel through the Rhön to Fulda. You can stop off at the 950-metre-high Wasserkuppe en route before checking in to your hotel in Fulda. Fulda’s magic really starts to shine when the sun sets behind the cathedral. On the guided tour, you will learn interesting stories about the city and can enjoy the tranquility and magic in the air. The tour concludes with a delicious drink typical of the local region.
Day 2: Fulda’s baroque quarter & departure
After breakfast, you have the opportunity to see the baroque quarter by day – visit the Adelspalais aristocratic palaces, the Residence Gardens and Fulda Cathedral, which is home to Saint Boniface’s tomb. St. Michael's Church, with its crypt dating back to Carolingian times, is one of the most important sacred medieval buildings in Germany. It served as quarters during the 18th century in the old town of Fulda.
You will then have some free time to head for lunch or to browse the shops before departing.

Day 1: A journey through time – from the renaissance to the baroque
Our castles tour starts in Schmalkalden in eastern Thuringia, where Wilhelmsburg Castle towers over the medieval town centre. Hessian Landgrave Wilhelm IV had his summer residence built here from 1585 to 1590. Your tour continues to the castle church, which is one of the most impressive Protestant churches from the 16th century. The castle itself, with its almost completely preserved exterior, magnificent murals and stucco work, is a jewel from the renaissance period.
Afterwards, the 950-metre-tall Wasserkuppe in the Rhön – known as “the land of open spaces” – demands a stop, before you continue on your journey to Fulda in the afternoon. After dinner, you have an opportunity to become acquainted with the old town and the baroque quarter. The evening tour of Fulda shows magical Fulda in the most beautiful light of the day. The tour concludes with a delicious drink typical of the local region.
Day 2: Fulda Residence – baroque splendour
Enjoy a one-hour tour of the Residence’s historic rooms. Learn fun and surprising facts and discover lots of secrets about the opulent life at court from a member of court society. The newly redesigned Residence Gardens are due to reopen from autumn 2024 and are the perfect place to take a stroll and explore. After this feast for the eyes, you can head to one of the many restaurants in and around Fulda’s old town for a bite to eat. You will depart Fulda in the early afternoon.

Day 1: Get a taste for indulgence in Fulda
Once you have checked into your hotel, set off on a culinary tour of Fulda. Sample local delights and drinks while discovering the wonderful baroque town and its fascinating history. Our “So schmeckt Fulda” (A taste of Fulda) tour starts in the baroque quarter and takes you to various places in the old town. We will sample regional treats at six different stops.
On the evenings of 7th to 11th August 2024, you can enjoy delicious culinary delights and the finest wines at Fulda’s Food & Drink Festival on the Pauluspromenade. Or how about visiting the Fulda Wine Festival in the wonderful ambience of the museum courtyard in the middle of the city? It runs from 28th August to 7th September 2024.
Day 2: From Fulda to the Rhön gourmet region
After a restful night in Fulda and a hearty breakfast, you will set off to explore the Rhön. Your tour will take you through the biosphere reserve. You will visit a Schnapps distillery and then stop off at a cosy inn or rustic lodge before heading back. You will be served some authentic local cuisine – from the rustic to the refined.
A tip for autumn: “Discover.Taste.Enjoy” is the motto of the Rhön Sausage Market or Wurstmarkt, which takes place every other October. On 12th and 13th October 2024, around 50 butchers and farmers from the UNESCO Rhön Biosphere Reserve and selected guest region will be presenting their speciality products on Marktstraße in the climatic health resort of Ostheim vor der Rhön.
Every year since 1988, a huge carpet of natural fruit, seeds, ground flowers and petals measuring around 4.5m x 6m has been created in the old church in the Hünfeld district of Sargenzell to mark the Harvest Festival. The arrangement changes each year and can be viewed until the start of November.

Day 1: A fairytale trip to Steinau an der Straße
Steinau an der Straße is just a short distance south-east of Fulda and is the place to immerse yourself in the world of the famous fairytale collectors Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm. Book a fairytale tour through the charming old town of the Brothers Grimm. The tour guide will be dressed as a well-known fairytale character. Then it’s on to Fulda. Spend the afternoon exploring Fulda on your own. Perhaps you could wander along the Bonifatiusstieg walking trail. As the day draws to a close and the baroque buildings glow in the warm light, Fulda can appear almost magical. Let yourself be enchanted by the truly special atmosphere in Hesse’s most picturesque baroque city.
Day 2: Proverbial Fulda
After breakfast, enjoy a guided tour of Fulda’s baroque quarter and old town, learning interesting facts about the history and meaning of proverbs as you go. If you like, you can use the time afterwards for a shopping spree in the city. Departure is scheduled for after lunch.
